VanDeventer Continues to Lead at Pinehurst

Cardinals will enter final round six shots off the pace
PINEHURST, N.C. -- Michael VanDeventer held onto the individual lead, but the Ball State men's golf team fell six shots off the pace Saturday in the second round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.

The Cardinals, who entered the day with a one-shot lead, posted a second-round score of 304 to bring their 36-hole total to 601 (+33) on the No. 8 course at Pinehurst Resort.

Old Dominion fired the low round of the tournament, a 295, to climb to the top of the leaderboard at 595 (+27). Radford (+29) is second, and Dayton (+30) is third. Ball State is one of six teams within eight shots of the lead entering the final round.

VanDeventer led the Cardinals with a 1-over par round of 72 Saturday. At 1-over through two rounds, the senior holds a two-stroke lead over Old Dominion's Calvin Greschner on the individual leaderboard.

The Cardinals also counted a 76 from Jack Cunningham, a 77 from Michael Makris and a 79, carded by both Johnny Watts and Timothy Wiseman, in round two.

Watts (+10) and Makris (+10) are tied for 23rd place through 36 holes.
