Cardinals lead Sunshine Invitational with one round to play

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Ball State women's golf team swept through its morning matches and picked up four more points in the afternoon to grab the lead after day one of the Ball State Sunshine Invitational.
The Cardinals have 10 points through the first two rounds to lead by 1.5 points over second-place Xavier. Valparaiso is five points back, in third place, while Western Illinois is fourth and IUPUI is fifth.
BSU's Manon Tounalom, Liz Kim, Emily Knouff and Holly Anderson won both of their matches Friday to combine for eight points on the Dye Course at PGA Village. Sydney Anderson and Morgan Nadaline added one point each in this week's modified match play format.
Knouff had one of the more impressive results of the day, winning her second-round match 7 and 6. Kim and Tounalom both posted 6 and 5 victories in the opening round.
The action wraps up with the final round Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Each team has six golfers, who earn one point for winning a match and half a point for halving a match. The team that has accumulated the most points at the end of Saturday's final round will be the champion.
