Yela Ziswiler scores first-half goal for Cardinals
WESTFIELD, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team opened its spring schedule Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Wright State.
Â
Yela Ziswiler, who will be a junior in the fall, scored the only goal of the day in the first half with a good strike from just outside the box.
Â
"The girls played well," Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. "I was very pleased with the overall performance. I still felt we needed to improve offensively with our finishing. We did create a lot of chances but need to convert them."
Â
The Cardinals' defense performed well to post a shutout. Emily Simmons, a transfer from Green Bay, saw her first action for BSU and made her presence felt on the back line.
Â
"Taylor (Pooley) and Emily on center defense looked like they had been playing together for many years, which was great to see," Roberts said.
Â
The Cardinals will continue their spring schedule March 24 against Salem University and Grace College with games starting at noon at the Briner Sports Complex.
