Timothy Wiseman Named MAC Golfer of the Week
February 16, 2018 | Men's Golf
Junior went 3-0-0 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's Timothy Wiseman shared this week's Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week honor, as announced by the league office.
Â
Wiseman went 3-0-0, led the field in birdies and never trailed all week at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play. The junior from Corydon, Indiana, beat a pair of top-500 players along the way to pace the Cardinals to a third-place team result.
Â
Wiseman opened with a decisive 5&4 victory over Drake's Drew Ison in Monday's quarterfinal round at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. In the afternoon semifinals, he dispatched Cam Solomon of top-seeded Miami, 3&2. Solomon entered ranked No. 462 in the country.
Â
In Tuesday's third-place match, Wiseman's only match to go the distance, he won the final hole for a 2 up victory over Nic Ross of Eastern Michigan. Ross was ranked No. 473.
Â
Not only did Wiseman never trail in any match, he was only all square after one hole the entire event. His 15 birdies were the most of any player in the field.
Â
Wiseman shares this week's award with Patrick Flavin and Brian Ohr of Miami and Thomas Thurloway of Toledo. All four golfers posted perfect records at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play.
Â
The Cardinals will return to action March 9-11 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
