Cardinals Earn MAC Win at Home
February 11, 2018 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind,.-- Behind a career high 9.900 from Jordyn Penny on bars and eight other Cardinals posting at least 9.800 or higher, Ball State gymnastics rode a 195.000 to its third straight Mid-American Conference victory inside Worthen Arena Sunday. The 3-0 start in conference is the team's best opening since 2013. Bowling Green managed a 194.275.
"We had a few mistakes here and there," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "But the team managed to let go and move on from event to event. Jordyn Penny had a really great performance on bars, matching her career high. It is fun watching her figure things out and today was definitely a great confidence booster for her moving forward."
The Cardinals started on vault where Bri Slonim earned second place with a score of 9.800. Maddie Macdonald and Jorydn Penny tied for third place with scores of 9.725.
On bars Penny notched a season high of 9.900 claiming first place. Macdonald and Kaitlyn Menzione stood together in second place with scores of 9.850. Vicky Garcia claimed a new personal record with a score of 9.800.
Baylee Bell and Jordyn Penny stood on top of the podium scoring 9.825 on beam.Â
Tia Kiaku won the floor event with an impressive 9.875. Sydney Finke stood third overall with a score of 9.850.Â
Kaitlyn Menzione claimed the all-around title, posting a 38.400.
"Iowa is going to be a quick turn around with the team only practicing twice before we leave," Saleem stated. "Having that amount of rest before we take on the Hawkeyes will be healthy both physically and mentally and I believe the team is ready to focus and prepare to win on the road."
The Cardinals travel to Iowa City, Iowa, Feb. 16 to take on the Hawkeyes at 7 P.M. CST.
