Cardinals Fall to Hawkeyes at Pink Meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa-- The Ball State Cardinals fall in an epic battle to the Iowa Hawkeyes 195.775-194.825 in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena Friday.
"The team had a few mistakes but overall had a great meet," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Jordyn Penny did a great job on bars, Bri Slonim had an amazing vault and Tia Kiaku performed a good floor routine."
The Cardinals started the competition on bars, where Jordyn Penny claimed second place scoring a 9.825. Kaitlyn Menzione tied with Maddie Macdonald for third place both scoring 9.775.
On vault Bri Slonim scored a 9.825 landing her in second place overall.Â
The team rotated to floor where Freshman Tia Kiaku claimed second place with a 9.825.
Lastly, on beam Baylee Bell stood second place with a score of 9.775.
Kaitlyn Menzione took second in the all-around competition scoring a 38.800.
"Among our mistakes tonight we had some outstanding performances," Saleem stated. "Looking forward to Northern Illinois I think the team needs to continue to focus on our gymnastics and let go of previous errors from event to event."
The Cardinals continue on the road to Dekalb, Ill., to face Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 P.M. CT.
