Ball State fans will have their first chance to catch the 2019 edition of BSU gymnastics when the team hosts its Red & White Meet Monday night at Worthen Arena.
In the first of five free-admission events for the coming year, the Cardinals will divide the newest Cards squad into two teams and have an intrasquad event. Jay Garrison from Woof Boom Radio will emcee the event and keep it fun for all in attendance. The event scoring will be done by none other than Charlie Cardinal and a panel of celebrity judges.Â
2019 GYMNASTICS SCHEDULE
This year's squad features a lot of new faces, with eight freshmen who hail from seven different states. Fifth-year senior Jordyn Penny returns as do Rachel Benoit, Sydney Finke, Maddie Macdonald and Bri Slonim - each of whom earned Academic All-MAC honors last season.
"Everyone looks forward to this time of year," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "The coaches are looking forward to seeing the routine make-up and team chemistry out on the competition floor. The gymnasts are looking forward to showing off all their hard work in front of the fans!"Â
Saleem also touched on the 15-week grind that her team has completed leading up to Monday's event.Â
"The preseason in gymnastics can start to feel long and difficult. Thr Red & White Meet is that light at the end of the tunnel. The fun time of the year is about to begin, meet season is here and that is where these young ladies thrive."
Ball State will host four regular season events - all free for BSU fans to attend - at Worthen this year. Cardinal fans can mark their calendars for Sunday, Feb. 3 for the first home meet when Western Michigan comes to Muncie. Ball State hosts Northern Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 17.Â
