November 30, 2018 | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving
OXFORD, Ohio – The divers joined in on the competition, and the Ball State University swimming and diving team strung together several more strong performances on day two of the Miami Invitational on Friday.
The Cardinal women fell a spot into fifth place with a total of 329.5 points while the men maintained their fourth-place position with 309 points.
After day one produced several lifetime bests, Ball State added several more career records to that list on Friday. Cecilia Moore and Katie Walker both set personal records in the 400 IM while Peighton Gilbert, Davis Meyn and Drew Weeks posted theirs in the 200 Free. Duncan McLarty set a career best in the 100 Fly, and Mason Dahman and Jacob Powell set theirs in the 100 Breast. Jack Luddy rounded out the group with a personal record in the 100 Back.
From a diving standpoint, the Cardinals had a very strong preliminary round. Hunter Ongay set a personal record in the 1M on the men's side. For the women, Rachel Bertram qualified for the 3M finals and finished fifth overall with a score of 264.25.
"Hunter had a great day," said diving coach Nick Gayes. "It was by far the best I've seen him dive. He posted a best score in 1M prelims by more than 30 points. Hopefully he can carry that momentum into the 3M tomorrow."
In the women's 200 Medley Relay, a team of Audrey Schank, Mason Dahman, Makenna Bottorff and Peighton Gilbert finished third with a time of 1:42.96 for the seventh-fastest time in school history. Cullen Tyler, Zach Reichle, Alec Tuthill and Drew Weeks were their male counterparts who took seventh place overall.
Meyn's seventh-place finish in the 200 Free and Tyler's fifth-place result in the 100 Breast were highlight finishes for the men. Schank's eight-place time in the 100 Back was a top time for the women.
The Cardinals will finish up the Miami Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 1). Live updates are available via the link below:
