Five Cardinals Honored on All-MAC Football Teams
November 28, 2018 | Football
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior wide receiver Riley Miller highlighted the Ball State football selections on the All-Mid-American Conference teams announced Wednesday afternoon. Miller was a second team honoree, while four other Cardinals were selected to the third team.
Miller, a former walk-on, ranks third in the league in receptions per game (5.1) and fourth in receiving yards per game (73.2). The local product from Yorktown, Indiana, recorded a touchdown reception in six straight games to end the season. His one-handed touchdown grab in the season finale at Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 20 was the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter's 'Top 10 Plays' the following morning. He piled up a career-best 208 receiving yards in the win over Kent State on Sept. 29 and became the first Cardinal to reach 200 receiving yards in a game since Willie Snead in 2012.
Linebacker Christian Albright, kick returner Malik Dunner, wide receiver Justin Hall and linebacker Jacob White were honored on the All-MAC third team.
Albright, a sophomore from Kennesaw, Georgia, made the move from defensive end to outside linebacker this year. He led the team in sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (4) while ranking second in tackles for loss (8.0) and fourth in total tackles (67). Albright's four forced fumbles are tied for the most in the league and rank fifth nationally. He finished with a career-high 14 tackles in the overtime win over Western Michigan on Nov. 13.
Dunner earned a spot on the All-MAC team as a kick returner for a second consecutive season. His 476 return yards rank third in the MAC. The junior out of Carpentersville, Illinois, notched a season-best 48-yard return against WKU on Sept. 22.
Hall also found his name on the All-MAC squad for a second straight year. He came on strong late in the season, averaging 7.2 receptions and 71 receiving yards per game in the final five contests. The sophomore from Douglasville, Georgia, ranks second in the league and among the top 35 players nationally with 5.8 receptions per game. He tallied a season-high 117 yards receiving against Western Michigan and scored on a 22-yard jet sweep in the finale at Miami (Ohio).
White was the team's leader on defense in his junior season. An injury limited White's play in the final three games, but he still finished tied for fifth on the team with 66 tackles. White registered a career-high 10 stops in back-to-back games against Kent State and Northern Illinois. The native of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, tied for the team lead with nine tackles and also had a personal-best 2.0 tackles for loss at No. 8 Notre Dame.
Ball State wrapped up the 2018 season with a 4-8 overall record and 3-5 mark in the MAC. The Cardinals will hold their annual team awards banquet on Saturday, Dec. 8.
