MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team signed two four-star recruits, Jessica Braun (Canton, Mich./Plymouth High School) and Emma Peeler (Cleveland, Ohio/Westlake High School) to National Letters of Intent to come to Ball State, Cardinals' head coach Max Norris announced Monday.
Braun, is from Canton, Mich., and attends Plymouth High School. She currently owns a national ranking of No. 118 for the class of 2019 according to TennisRecruiting.Net.
Braun has found much success competing in the United States Tennis Association summer circuit. She was a quarterfinalist at the 2018 USTA Midwest closed girls 18 singles tournament and registered three wins at the 2018 USTA National Hard Court Championships. In 2017, Braun took home the USTA Southeast Michigan qualifier title for girls 18 singles. She comes to Ball State boasting a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 9.91.
"Jessica is an amazing student and competitor," Norris said. "She has played in 74 matches this year alone, and that isn't even counting her high school schedule. She is devoted to challenging herself and growing as a competitor. Jessica also has a great tennis mind, which will help her build on her game in college. I know she will be an excellent person in our program for the next four years."
Peeler, a four-time Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state qualifier in singles for Cleveland Westlake High School, finished fourth in the state singles competition in 2018. TennisRecruiting.Net has Peeler ranked 161st nationally for the class of 2019.
Peeler has also had a successful USTA career. She was a member of the 2018 Northeast Ohio team that placed second for girls 18 singles at the Marian Wood Baird Cup. Peeler earned the USTA Northeast Ohio District Diane McNeal Sportsmanship Award, which is given annually to recognize commitment to sportsmanship in the Northeast Ohio area.
"We are excited to welcome Emma to our program," Norris said. "She has seen great success both at the individual and team level. This includes her accomplishments in USTA events and Ohio high school events. I believe this will help her be a great competitor in dual matches but also be a great teammate. Moreover, Emma has great weapons which I am excited to help her build on in the next four years."
