Cardinals add highly-rated junior golfers to next year’s roster
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team inked two of Indiana's top high school golfers to National Letters of Intent in the November signing period.
The Cardinals will welcome Joey Wiseman from Corydon Central High School and Evan Bone, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, and now a student at Westfield High School, to the program next year.
Wiseman is the third-rated player in the state of Indiana's 2019 class. He posted five top 10's among nine starts this year in AJGA, Golfweek Junior Tour and Indiana golf events. Among those were a victory in the Golfweek stop at The Players Club in Yorktown and top-10's at the Boys State Junior Championship and the Golfweek Junior Tour Championship. He fired a season-best score of 67 in round two of the AJGA's Circle K Junior Championship at Otter Creek.
Wiseman has made two appearances for Corydon at the Indiana state championships and will play his senior season in the spring. He was sectional champion and regional runner-up as a junior after winning the regional title as a sophomore. He is the younger brother of current Ball State senior golfer Timothy Wiseman.
"Easily one of the most talented 2019's in a deep Indiana class, Joey competes all over the country at a high level," Ball State head coach Mike Fleck said. "With his brother Timothy wrapping up his Ball State golf career later this spring, Joey has followed our program closely the past four years. He knows what we want to accomplish and the expectations we have for our young men, and he will be an impact student-athlete during his time at Ball State."
Bone played three years at Trinity High School in Louisville before moving to Westfield for his senior year. He is the second-rated player in Kentucky's class of 2019. Bone recorded five top-25 finishes in seven starts this year among the junior golf ranks. He fired his best score of the year with a 68 in the final round of the AJGA's Scott Stallings Junior Championship in June. He placed 23rd in a field of 120 at the Golfweek Junior Tour Championship in May.
Bone was a two-time Metro Louisville All-Area selection by the Louisville Courier-Journal. He finished top 20 at the Kentucky state tournament as a junior and top 10 as a sophomore, helping Trinity to third-place team finishes both years. He will play his senior season at Westfield in the spring.
"Evan is a competitive and determined young man, finishing his junior golf career as the No. 2-ranked 2019 player in the state of Kentucky," Fleck said. "Evan recently moved to Indiana and will finish his career with a tradition-rich Westfield High School golf program. Like Joey, Evan has competed nationally and will bring that experience and success to a talented, young roster next year."
