Soccer Advances to MAC Championship
November 02, 2018 | Soccer
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Keeping with the common theme this season, the Ball State University soccer team found themselves in overtime, but prevailed once again as they defeated Western Michigan, 1-0, in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament on Friday night.
The win secured the Cardinals a place in the MAC Championship game on Sunday. They will face the winner of Bowling Green and Ohio. BSU pushed its record to 14-3-2 for the season, and won its ninth consecutive match.
The Cardinals led the match in shots with 16 to the Broncos' 12. Eleven of Ball State's shots were on goal while they held WMU to only three on goal. Tristin Stuteville saved all three of those attempts.
With time winding down and the match heading toward penalty kicks, Lauren Roll possessed the ball and made a great move to beat her defender in the attacking third. Roll sent a cross into the box and a Western Michigan defender kicked it into her own net for the goal that secured the Cardinals the win.
Ball State remained unbeaten in overtime matches this season with the score in the 105th minute.
The Cardinals now prepare for the MAC Championship which takes place on Sunday, Nov. 4. The match will kick at 1:00 p.m. ET and a spot in the NCAA Tournament will be on the line.
