Soccer Falls in Conference Opener at Home on Thursday

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team fell to UMass 1-0 in their Mid-American Conference opener on Thursday evening.
The Cardinals (3-4-1) generated 16 shots with two shots on goal, but were held scoreless in the contest. The Minutewomen (7-1) scored the lone goal in the 40th minute to post the winning decision.
Ball State had five different players register a shot in the contest. Mary Jane Keller and Annika Klauss each were credited with a shot on goal.
Goalkeeper Kate Pallante made nine saves for Ball State, while Ainsley Schaufele and Jordyn Klaasen were other Cardinals to play the full 90 minutes.
UMass outshot the Cardinals 16-5 and led in shots on goal (10-2), while also being whistled for more fouls (12-7).
The Cardinals will continue MAC play on the road at Western Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
