WBB Inks Three To National Letters of Intent
November 14, 2018 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's basketball seventh-year head coach Brady Sallee announced the signing of three in the high school class of 2019 Wednesday. Sydney Freeman (Albion, Ind./Central Noble), Anna Gamarra (Barcelona, Spain/Segle Club) and Annie Rauch (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) have all signed letters of intent to play for the Cardinals beginning in 2019-2020.
"We are really excited to announce this class," Sallee said. "I think Sydney, Annie and Anna will all make an immediate impact on our program. Anytime you can add the size and length of Annie Rauch and Anna Gamarra coupled with a big-time playmaker like Sydney Freeman, you have to feel good about it. But when you see the level of student-athletes they are and the amount of character they bring to the table, this class has me thrilled for the future."
Sydney Freeman
A 5-8 guard out of Albion, Ind., Freeman comes to Ball State currently averaging 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 6.3 steals per contest for Central Noble High School. Freeman broke the school's all-time scoring record Nov. 6 against Whitko, passing former Cougar Mike Young's all-time scoring record with her 1,310 career points. As a junior, Freeman led a balanced attack with an average of 17.3 points per game to help Central Noble to its first IHSAA Class 2A state title. Freeman earned Indiana Junior All-Star accolades along with All-Northeast Indiana Basketball First Team honors. She was also tabbed to the All-Northeast Corner Conference and All-Area teams. In July, @ScoutingINGirls said in an Indy Star article that Freeman stood out among the top recruits in the state of Indiana, calling her "a hidden gem" and "a long, fast point guard prospect who takes care of the ball and seemingly always makes the right decision."
Quote from Coach Sallee:
"Sydney Freeman, we feel, is the best point guard in Indiana. She can simply do it all …score, dish it and defend. The fact that she led her team to a state championship cannot be overlooked. I can't wait to watch her command the court for the Cardinals."
Anna Gamarra
A 6-3 forward, Gamarra becomes the third player to join the program from Spain under Sallee, coming to Muncie from Barcelona, where she plays for Club Segle XXI. Gamarra was chosen as one of 15 players to compete for Spain at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup. Gamarra also participated at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, helping her team to a fifth-place finish and winning all but one game. Gamarra's best scoring performance in FIBA U17 came against Poland when she scored 17 points, pulled down four rebounds and collected four steals in a 60-59 victory. Gamarra is a four-star recruit with a 25th international ranking according to GoGlobal Recruiting.
Quote from Coach Sallee:
"Anna Gamarra is a load of talent. She is long, can put it on the floor from the perimeter and has a silky smooth touch. Her skill set is high level, and at 6-3 it's amazing to watch her handle and pass the ball. She will really excel in our up-tempo system!"
Annie Rauch
A 6-3 forward out of Hilliard, Ohio, Rauch is currently averaging 14.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for Hilliard Darby High School. Last season she was named to the All-Central District team. Rauch was captain for the Panthers her junior year while averaging 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. She was also tabbed her team's Most Valuable Player in 2017-18. As a sophomore, Rauch averaged a double-double per game with 13.2 points and 13.2 rebounds. She was an All-Central District Third Team recipient and a First Team Ohio Capital Conference honoree along with being named to the ThisWeek's 2017-18 Super 12 Girls Basketball Team. Rauch was also a standout volleyball player for the Panthers. She recently received First-Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-District honors in volleyball.
Quote from Coach Sallee:
"Annie Rauch is a big, strong, physical post player. She has the agility it takes to play at this level and will be one of the hardest workers we have. Annie is a fierce rebounder with great hands. I look forward to seeing her in our system."
