Where Are They Now? Former Cardinals Wrap up Their 2018 Baseball Season

MUNCIE, Ind. – Several former Ball State baseball players recently concluded their season in the professional ranks and most of those players had solid seasons. Let's take a look at the 2018 baseball year for these eight players …
Dean Anna, infielder
Anna spent the entire summer playing for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate. He hit .271 over 122 games while tallying 20 doubles and scoring 73 times. Anna helped Lehigh Valley win the International League North Division and advance to postseason play.
Nestor Bautista, left-handed pitcher
In his fifth year as a professional player, Bautista made 37 appearances on the mound for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, a Class A team for the Miami Marlins. The lefty finished with a 1-2 record, 2.64 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 75 innings pitched. Bautista also recorded 89 strikeouts, his highest season total as a professional.
Alex Call, outfielder
Call earned a promotion to Double-A with the Birmingham Barons in June. He hit .248 with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs in his third year as a professional. In late August, Call hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Jackson to even the score at 3-all. Birmingham went on to win that game in extra innings, 5-4.
Jeremy Hazelbaker, outfielder
Hazelbaker, who spent a large portion of time in the majors in 2016 and 2017, split time between a pair of Triple-A teams this season – the Durham Bulls and Rochester Red Wings. He finished the year with the Red Wings, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. For the year, Hazelbaker hit .204 with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, 46 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 98 games.
Kevin Marnon, left-handed pitcher
A lefty reliever, Marnon was promoted to Class A advanced this year. He finished the year with the Fort Myers Miracle where he made 29 appearances and picked up six saves in eight opportunities. Marnon's final stat line for 2018 was 3-4 with a 3.46 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
Zach Plesac, right-handed pitcher
Plesac made the move from Class A advanced to Double-A. He finished the year with the Akron RubberDucks. He went 3-1 for Akron with a 2.45 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in four starts. Plesac made two starts for the RubberDucks in the Eastern League playoffs.
Jarett Rindfleisch, catcher
Rindfleisch, in his third year as a pro, was assigned to the Class A advanced Jupiter Hammerheads in the spring, but only saw action in 13 games before suffering an injury.
T.J. Weir, right-handed pitcher
Weir spent 2018 between the Double A and Triple A affiliates for the San Diego Padres. He saw action in 44 games as a reliever and finished with a 5-2 record and 2.89 ERA over 71.2 innings pitched. Weir ended the year on a positive note as he allowed only two runs in his final eight appearances.
