Ball State Quarterback Riley Neal Tabbed Wuerffel Trophy Nominee

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. – Ball State junior quarterback Riley Neal was one of nine football players from the Mid-American Conference to be announced as a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, presented by the Chick-Fil-A Foundation®.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. The Wuerffel Trophy, now in its 14th year, is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida. Kentucky's Courtney Love took home the award in 2017.
Neal, a local product from Yorktown, Indiana, currently ranks third on Ball State's all-time passing list (7,317 yards). Earlier this season in the win over Kent State, Neal threw for a career-best 402 yards and accounted for five touchdowns. In the classroom, the business administration major carries a 3.511 GPA and was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team in 2016.
Not only is Neal one of the team leaders on the field but also in the community. He has participated in a wide range of activities such as Feed My Sheep, Special Olympics basketball, Team IMPACT, Building Better Communities, Ball State's Riley Dance Marathon and Cardinals Read in the Community.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 1, 2018, and finalists revealed on Nov. 19, 2018. The formal announcement of the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy recipient is scheduled to be made on Dec. 4, 2018 at the National Football Foundation's press conference in New York City.
