Soccer Wins Sixth Straight in Defeat of Eastern Michigan
October 21, 2018 | Soccer
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The defense took care of business by allowing no goals, and Peighton Cook scored the game winner as the Ball State University soccer team defeated Eastern Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals pushed their winning streak to six with the win. They also improved their record to 11-3-2 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play.
The match got off to a slow start as neither team could score in the opening half. Ball State tallied the only shot on goal in the first-45 minutes.
Out of the break, the Cardinals wasted little time getting on the board as Cook found the top-right corner of the goal from outside the box in the 51st minute. Jenna Dombrowski was credited with an assist on the play.
The Ball State defense locked it down from there, pitching a shutout and securing the 1-0 victory. Tristin Stuteville recorded three saves while recording the clean sheet.
Eastern Michigan outshot the Cardinals 15-11, but BSU put four shots on goal to just three for the Eagles. EMU took all eight corner kicks through the match.
Ball State's home and regular season finale will take place on Thursday (Oct. 25) with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET.
