Ball State Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Induction Class

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State Athletics has announced its latest Hall of Fame induction class, featuring a leader from the 2009 women's basketball NCAA Tournament team, a Major League Baseball player, a prolific field hockey goal scorer, a track All-American, a highly successful athletic director and a defensive juggernaut in football.

The six-member class includes Porchia Green (women's basketball), Jeremy Hazelbaker (baseball), Lindsay Quay (field hockey), Amber Williams (track and field), Don Purvis (Athletic Director) and the 1978 football team.

The group will be inducted Friday, Feb. 1 at the Ball State Alumni Center. The festivities begin with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and costs $45 per person. The inductees will also be honored at the Feb. 2 men's basketball game versus Kent State.

Porchia Green, Women's Basketball
Porchia Green, a member of the women's basketball team from 2005-09, was the 2008-09 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-MAC selection. Green led the Cardinals to the 2009 MAC Tournament Championship and the school's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Green, who ended her career ranked 10th on the school's all-time scoring list, led Ball State to a first-round NCAA Tournament win over two-time defending national champion Tennessee. She completed her career ranked sixth in career rebounds and assists on Ball State's all-time lists. Green has spent the past eight years playing professional basketball overseas.

Jeremy Hazelbaker, Baseball
Jeremy Hazelbaker played three seasons of baseball for Ball State from 2007-09 before embarking on a professional career that has seen him play in the major leagues for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox. Hazelbaker has more than 250 at-bats in the major leagues after playing nearly 1,000 games at the minor league level. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Red Sox after earning second and third team All-America honors for Ball State. A 2009 All-MAC selection, Hazelbaker led the league in batting average, hits, runs, triples, walks and on-base percentage.

Lindsay Quay, Field Hockey
Lindsay Quay lettered for the Ball State field hockey team from 2003-06 and was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year as a senior in 2006. She completed her career sixth in school history with 37 career goals, including a career-high 14 scores as a senior. Quay became the fourth player in Ball State field hockey history to earn MAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2003. She started all 76 of the Cardinals' games in her career and led the team in scoring in each of her final three seasons. A three-time All-MAC selection, Quay made the league's honor roll in each of her final three campaigns. She was an All-MAC Tournament Team choice as a senior and earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region second team honors as a junior and senior.

Amber Williams, Track and Field
Amber Williams, a member of the Ball State women's track and field team from 2004-09, earned All-America honors as a junior after tallying a 13.18 mark in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2007 NCAA Championships. The 2007 and 2009 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track Most Valuable Performer advanced to the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships and placed 12th in the 60-meter hurdles. At the 2009 MAC Indoor Championships, Williams earned titles in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. At the 2009 MAC Outdoor Championships, she won the 100-meter dash and the 100 hurdles. Williams was a two-time All-MAC selection and placed fourth in the 60 hurdles at the 2008 USA Track & Field Indoor Championships.

Don Purvis, Athletic Director for Men
Don Purvis was Ball State's director of intercollegiate athletics for men from 1984-95 and led the department to the Reese Trophy three times. The Reese Trophy is awarded to the Mid-American Conference school that has the best overall finish in six men's sports, with the schools having to count their finishes in football, basketball and baseball. Under the guidance of Purvis, the Cardinals won 22 conference championships in men's sports, and the football team appeared in its first-ever NCAA Division I-A bowl games. The men's basketball team made four trips to the NCAA Tournament, two National Invitation Tournaments and one preseason NIT. The men's volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Championships five times, and the 1989 men's cross country team appeared in the NCAA Championships.

1978 Football Team
Ball State's 1978 football team won the Mid-American Conference championship under the tutelage of head coach Dwight Wallace for the program's second league title in three years. The Cardinals managed a 10-1 overall record, marking the first 10-win season in program history, and an unblemished 8-0 mark in the MAC. Ball State ranked first in the nation in scoring defense, third in total defense and fifth in rushing defense. The Cardinals limited opponents to 7.4 points per game and posted four shutouts. Ken Kremer (third team) and Bill Stahl (honorable mention) earned AP All-America recognition. Ball State featured four All-MAC first team selections, including Kremer as the league's Defensive Player of the Year. Wallace was named the MAC Coach of the Year.
