Field Hockey Suffers 4-0 Road Loss At Kent State
October 12, 2018 | Field Hockey
KENT, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss at Kent State Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
Â
The Cardinals (2-11, 2-2 MAC) were coming off of a 3-2 double overtime victory at home against Ohio University in league play one week ago today. Â Kent State (5-9, 3-1 MAC) scored all four of its goals in the first 35 minutes of regulation. Â
Â
Both teams had opened play with a strong defensive stance for the first 24 minutes of action. Â Hail Balachick found the net for Kent State at the 23:37 mark and then Jessica Apelt scored minutes later to put the Golden Flashes up 2-0 over the Cardinals. Â
Â
After that, Ball State couldn't seem to stop Kent State from increasing their lead as the Golden Flashes scored two more times, including off of a direct corner as time expired in first stanza.
Â
Ball State came out strong defensively after intermission and would hold Kent State scoreless the remainder of the contest. Â Unfortunately, the Cardinals continued to struggle offensively having only six total shot attempts while the Golden Flashes registered 18.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Chavez collected 10 saves on the day while Kent State's goalkeeper only had five.
Â
The Ball State field hockey team faces its fifth nationally ranked opponent this season when it travels to No. 7 Michigan Sunday. Â The Wolverines own a 9-5 overall record and a 5-1 Big Ten ledger. Â The game will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 1 p.m.
