Field Hockey Suffers 4-0 Road Loss At Kent State
October 12, 2018 | Field Hockey
KENT, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss at Kent State Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
The Cardinals (2-11, 2-2 MAC) were coming off of a 3-2 double overtime victory at home against Ohio University in league play one week ago today. Kent State (5-9, 3-1 MAC) scored all four of its goals in the first 35 minutes of regulation.
Both teams had opened play with a strong defensive stance for the first 24 minutes of action. Hail Balachick found the net for Kent State at the 23:37 mark and then Jessica Apelt scored minutes later to put the Golden Flashes up 2-0 over the Cardinals.
After that, Ball State couldn't seem to stop Kent State from increasing their lead as the Golden Flashes scored two more times, including off of a direct corner as time expired in first stanza.
Ball State came out strong defensively after intermission and would hold Kent State scoreless the remainder of the contest. Unfortunately, the Cardinals continued to struggle offensively having only six total shot attempts while the Golden Flashes registered 18.
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Chavez collected 10 saves on the day while Kent State's goalkeeper only had five.
The Ball State field hockey team faces its fifth nationally ranked opponent this season when it travels to No. 7 Michigan Sunday. The Wolverines own a 9-5 overall record and a 5-1 Big Ten ledger. The game will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 1 p.m.
