Solid Afternoon Keeps Men’s Golf Among Chasers at Firestone

Keegan Bronnenberg four shots off individual lead with one round left
AKRON, Ohio -- Keegan Bronnenberg fired a pair of under-par rounds Monday for the Ball State men's golf team to find himself in the hunt at the Firestone Invitational.
The Cardinals are tied for 10th as a team through 36 holes at 2 under par after improving by eight strokes over their morning round with an afternoon 286. BSU is just eight shots out of the top 5 in a bunched middle portion of the leaderboard at Firestone Country Club's North Course.
Ohio sits atop the 17-team field at 12 under par after rounds of 281 and 283. The Bobcats will enter the final round with a two-shot lead over second-place UConn.
Ryan Tattan of Winthrop is the individual leader by one stroke at 7 under par. He faces a large pack of pursuers with 23 total players in red figures.
Bronnenberg is among that group, just four shots back in a tie for 12th at 3 under par. The sophomore from Muncie carded rounds of 71 and 70 to lead the Cardinals on the opening day. He made 11 birdies to tie for the most in the field but also had a double bogey in each round.
Joey Ranieri (70) and Timothy Wiseman (71) were also under par in the afternoon. Ranieri, making his collegiate debut, birdied his last three holes and ended the day in a tie for 32nd at 1 over. Wiseman birdied four of his last six and is tied for 24th at even par.
The third and final round is set for Tuesday with a split tee start. The Cardinals will be part of the final wave off the 10th tee beginning at 10 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
