- Senior forward Moriah Monaco posted a 29-point, 10 rebound effort to lead Ball State (17-3, 6-3 MAC) to an 81-72 Mid-American Conference victory over Northern Illinois (10-10, 2-7 MAC) Saturday evening in Worthen Arena.
Monaco's double-double was her second straight and fourth of the season. Senior guard Frannie Frazier contributed 14 points on the day, while junior guard Carmen Grande recorded her eighth double-double of the year after chipping in 11 points and dishing out 12 assists. In addition, junior guard Jasmin Samz also scored in double figures with 10 points. Defensively, freshman forward Oshlynn Brown pulled down a game high 15 rebounds just one shy of her career best.
- Ball State's 17-3 record is the best start in program history. Currently, their are only 16 Division I women's basketball programs in the country that have suffered only three losses.
- Ball State finished non-conference play with an 11-0 record and was one of only seven teams nationally to accomplish that goal. The Cardinals were also only one of two non Power 5 teams on that list. Ball State has received votes in both the USA Today Coaches and AP Top 25 polls this season.
- Power 5 conference wins over - Vanderbilt (88-79) and Purdue (66-60). Along with wins over Big East opponent Butler (87-75) and Conference USA Western Kentucky (93-81).
- Ball State has scored at least 80-plus points in 12 out of its 20 games.
- Ball State ranks 32nd nationally in the latest RPI which is the second highest ranking of any team in the Mid-American Conference.
- Ball State has three wins over top 100 RPI Teams - Western Kentucky (43), Purdue (46) and Butler (89).
- Junior guard Carmen Grande ranks second nationally in assists per game (9.8 apg) and second in total assists (195).
- The 11 straight non-conference wins marked the second largest win streak in program history (12 in 2008-09 which included win over Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament).
- Senior forward Moriah Monaco has scored 72 times in double figures over her career and is 12 points away from moving up to seventh on the program's all-time scoring list.
- Akron holds a 7-13 record heading into tonight's contest and a 1-8 MAC record. The Zips are coming off of an 75-60 win over Kent State Saturday. It was the first game Akron has won this season over a league opponent.
- Wednesday's game against Akron will mark the 39th time in program history the two schools have met with the Cardinals leading the all-time series, 22-16. Ball State has won the last five meetings between the two programs winning its last meeting 74-61 on Jan. 10, 2018 in James A. Rhodes Arena.
- Akron is paced by Megan Sefcik, who averages 13.4 points per game, behind Sefcik is Shaunay Edmonds who is currently averaging 11.1 ppg. Defensively the Zips are led by Haliegh Reinoehl who pulls down 8.9 rebounds per contest.
- The Zips are led by head coach Jodi Kest who is in her 12th season at Akron. She owns a career record of 397-332 (.544).
