Watts, Wiseman Close Opening Day in Top 15

Cardinals eighth out of 16 teams through one round at Wolf Run
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Senior Johnny Watts led the Ball State men's golf team with a 1-under par round of 70 as the Cardinals opened the season Friday at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

Watts is part of a seven-way tie for second place individually, four shots behind round-one leader Brian Ohr of Miami University.

Ball State is eighth on the 16-team leaderboard at Wolf Run Golf Club with two rounds still to play. The Cardinals opened with a round of 301 (+17). Kentucky leads the way at even par.

Watts, a two-time All-MAC selection, was steady all day. He made two birdies and just one bogey on a challenging setup that played to a stroke average of 76.66 for the field.

Sophomore Timothy Wiseman turned in a strong round as well, making a pair of birdies and three bogeys to finish the opening day tied for 15th at 1 over par.

Ball State will be grouped with North Texas and Indiana for the second round Saturday. The Cardinals' tee times begin at 9 a.m.
