Field Hockey Falls to Ranked James Madison

LOUISVILLE, Ky.– The Ball State field hockey team looked to take down No. 13 James Madison Friday afternoon, but came up just short. The Cardinals fell to the Dukes, 2-0 in the neutral site action.
As a team, Ball State was able to record four shots and two shots on goal. However, James Madison was able to tally 15 shots, eight shots on goal and two assists. The Cardinals only attempted one penalty corner compared to James Madison's 13.
Miranda Rigg and Lisa Lejeune were the two Dukes that were able to connect with the back of the cage. Rigg marked her seventh goal of the season in the 40th minute off a deflected penalty corner. Lejeune marked her third goal of the season from the right side of the circle in the 57th minute of the contest.
Kylee Cunningham and Abbey Main each tallied one shot and one shot on goal. Sierra Jefferson and Michelle Shampton added one shot a piece while Anya Eicher recorded a defensive save.
In the cage, Grace Chavez marked five saves.
The Cardinals will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., Sunday, Oct. 1 to take on another ranked opponent. The contest is against No. 8 Michigan and is set to begin at 1 p.m.
