Field Hockey Preparing to Battle Another Ranked Opponent

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team is gearing up to take on another nationally ranked opponent this weekend. The Cardinals will wrap up their eight game road trip in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday when they take on No. 6 Michigan.
Michigan goes into the matchup with a 7-2 overall record. The two loses came from No. 4 Connecticut and William and Mary. Notable wins by the Wolverines include No. 1 North Carolina in the season opener, No. 15 Wake Forest, and No. 25 Liberty. The Michigan squad is 3-0 in the Big Ten, taking down Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State.
Going into the weekend the Cardinals are second in the Mid-American Conference in goals allowed, only allowing 11 goals so far this season. Michelle Shampton, Abbey Main and Sierra Jefferson are all tied for seventh in the conference in goals scored with three each. Anya Eicher and Carley Shannon are tied for seventh in the MAC with three assists each.
In the cage, Grace Chavez ranks in the top of the MAC in multiple categories. Chavez is first in the conference with an impressive .788 save percentage. She is second in the MAC with a 1.55 goals against average. With 41 saves so far this season, Chavez is tied for third in the conference.
The last time the Cardinals and Wolverines met was back in the 2013 season. Ball State fell to the then 16 ranked Michigan, 10-2, in Ann Arbor.
