September 17, 2017 | Field Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Ball State field hockey team came up short Sunday afternoon against the Indiana Hoosiers. The Cardinals fell to IU, 2-1 in Bloomington.
The Cardinals' goalkeeper Grace Chavez proved to be a force to be reckoned with in today's contest. The Hoosiers were able to tally 26 total shots along with 16 penalty corners, but Chavez proved to be a fighter in the cage. Chavez racked up a career high seven saves and only allowed two goals against the Big Ten powerhouse. The true freshman has a 1.10 goals against average and boasts an impressive .800 save percentage.
Ball State was able to get eight total shots off against the Hoosiers. Carley Shannon, Rachel Pereira, Darbi Gullett, Hillary Scott, Abbey Main and Marjolein Dekker all had one shot each. Freshman Abby Ferenczy took two shots and connected with the back of the cage once to score the Cardinals' only game. Ferenczy scored in the 15th minute on a Shannon assist.
The Ball State field hockey team (4-4) will travel to Louisville, Kent., Friday, Sept. 22 to take on James Madison. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
