VanDeventer, Watts Named All-America Scholars

Cardinals run all-time All-America Scholar total to 50
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men's golfers Michael VanDeventer and Johnny Watts were named this week as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

VanDeventer owns a 3.429 GPA in exercise science, while Watts carries a 3.417 GPA in finance. The pair turned in two of the top three stroke averages on the Cardinals' roster last season.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Watts led Ball State in 2016-17 with a 72.91 scoring average, nine rounds in the 60s and five top-10 finishes. He was an All-MAC selection for the second time in his career and was also named to the Academic All-MAC squad.

VanDeventer managed a 74.00 stroke average and matched the Cardinals' low round of the season with a 67. He posted three top-10 finishes, including his first career victory by sharing medalist honors at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational. He was also named to the Academic All-MAC Team.

With the recognition for Watts and VanDeventer this year, Ball State has now had a total of 50 All-America Scholar selections in program history.
