
Swimming and Diving Awarded for Academic Excellence

MUNCIE, Ind. – For the first time in the 95-year history of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition. In total, 720 teams, representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the spring 2017 semester. Both Ball State men's and women's swimming teams were among those receiving the award.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving placed 12 members on the Academic All-MAC team and finished the year with a 3.24 team GPA. The Ball State women's swimming and diving team earned a GPA of 3.65 with 18 members being named Academic All-MAC.
The CSCAA is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level. The CSCAA was founded in 1922 and is the oldest organization of college coaches in America.
On top of both swimming and diving squads receiving the team honors, two individuals were also recognized for their outstanding athletic and academic success. Divers Rachel Bertram and Rachel Smallwood received Scholar All-America honorable mention.
The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The CSCAA selected 997 swimmers and divers for its Scholar All-America team, while 954 additional student-athletes were named honorable mention. The students named honorable mention have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
