Ball State Baseball’s Sean Kennedy Named First Team All-Region
June 15, 2017 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. –Ball State senior Sean Kennedy was one of six Mid-American Conference baseball players recently named to the 2017 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region team. ABCA members vote on the teams, and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
Kennedy, a first team all-region selection, had a career year in his final season with the Cardinals. He led the MAC in four key offensive categories during league play – batting average (.404), hits (40), doubles (10) and total bases (70). The infielder from Dayton, Ohio, also ranked among the top three players in two other categories – slugging (.707) and RBIs (30).
Kennedy hit .714 (10-of-14) in the series against Bowling Green on April 14-15. In game two of that series, he went 5-for-5 with three home runs, a triple, a double and nine RBIs. Kennedy set a program record with 17 total bases.
On April 18, Kennedy propelled Ball State to a 5-3 win over Purdue with a leadoff home run in the top of the 12th inning.
This is the fourth consecutive year the Cardinals have been represented on the All-Mideast Region squad. Other recent honorees include Alex Call and Caleb Stayton in 2016, Jarett Rindfleisch in 2015, and Sean Godfrey and Zach Plesac in 2014.
As a first team all-region honoree, Kennedy will now be in the running for ABCA/Rawlings All-American honors. The ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 17.
Ball State concluded the 2017 season with a 30-28 overall record and 14-10 mark in the MAC. This was the fifth straight year the Cardinals reached the 30-win plateau.
