Cardinals Closer Missed First Two Years of Baseball at Ball State with Injury
Muncie, Ind -- T.J. Baker waited 925 days.  From his first day of classes to his first collegiate pitch was 925 days.  Now a redshirt sophomore from Tipton, Mich., Baker was a steal of a recruit for Ball State when he signed back in 2014.  But his journey would take some time following the discovery of a torn UCL his freshman season (which led to Tommy John surgery) and a shoulder injury as a sophomore.  Baker threw precisely zero pitches during his first two seasons at Ball State...in the fall or spring.
Things have taken a different turn as a junior for Baker. Â He's made the second most appearances of any reliever in the MAC this spring and has settled in as BSU's closer, racking up five saves.
All-Access sat down with both Baker and head coach Rich Maloney to talk about his trying first few seasons in Muncie and how it feels now that he's becoming a dominating force on the mound.
Baker and the Cardinals are home again this weekend following finals. Â The Cards host Toledo for a three game MAC series beginning at 3pm on Friday and following with games on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm.
