She’s In; Track & Fields’ Stewart Makes NCAA East Preliminary Round
May 18, 2017 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State track & field program will be officially sending two student-athletes to next week's NCAA East Preliminary Round at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility, as sophomore sprinter Peyton Stewart found out today (Thursday, May 18) her time was fast enough to qualify for the meet.
Stewart entered the week seeded 53rd in the NCAA East Region with her first-place time of 11.55 in the 100m dash at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships. However, scratches in the event raised her all the way up to 42nd among the 48-runner field.
Sophomore Regan Lewis had already secured her spot in the high jump, as her winning height of 1.82m at the MAC Outdoor Championships was tied for seventh in the region.
Stewart will be Ball State's first track athlete to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round since the 2010 season when then-senior Katie Johnson placed 44th in the 100m hurdles.
The last Ball State field athlete to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round was then-senior Rebecca Lomax who placed 45th in the high jump in 2015.
Stewart's first test at the NCAA East Preliminary round will come Thursday, May 25 when she takes the track at 6:30 p.m. for the first round of the 100m dash. Lewis will compete in first-round action in the high jump Friday, May 26 at 4:30 p.m.
