Women's Tennis Remains Perfect In MAC Play

The No. 3 doubles tandem of Toni Ormond and Isabelle Dohanics were the first off the court for the Cardinals in doubles action. The twosome earned a dominating 6-1 victory over Eastern Michigan's Alejandra Barcelo and Renu Sharma. At first it seemed as if Ball State would take the first point from the Eagles fairly easily as the No. 1 duo of Audrey Berger and Julia Sbircea quickly went up 4-1. But Eastern Michigan rallied its way back into the match as Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero knotted the match 4-4. Berger and Sbircea answered quickly by taking the next two games from Eastern Michigan for the 6-4 win.
For the fourth-straight match, Ball State entered singles play with an early 1-0 advantage against its respective league opponent. The Cardinals controlled their tempo taking commanding first set starts on five of the six courts. Rebecca Herrington increased Ball State's lead to 2-0 after posting a 6-1, 6-1 defeat over Anna Velva at the No. 4 singles position. On court five, Berger downed Barcelo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 fairly quickly after her teammate Herrington finished. With the Cardinals up 3-0 and four singles courts remaining, Ormond clinched the match for Ball State with her 6-2, 6-2 upset over Andrea Martinovska.
The Cardinals and the Eagles continued to play out the match allowing Rosalinda Calderon to register a 6-2, 7-2 win over Sharma on court six. Carmen Blanco also remained unblemished at the No. 1 position in singles action against her league opponents. Calderone beat Gogvadze in a first set tie breaker 7-6 (4) and then went on to take the second set by a score of 6-2.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action when it plays at Toledo Sunday afternoon. First serve against the Rockets begins at 1 p.m.
