Women's Tennis Earns 5-2 Road Win At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team continues to dominate Mid-American Conference action after taking down Toledo by a score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon on the road at the UT Varsity Courts. With the win, the Cardinals improve their overall record to 18-2 on the season and 6-0 in league action while the Rockets fall to 8-11 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.
Toledo got off to a quick start after taking the first doubles match from the Cardinals on court three. The Ball State twosome of Toni Ormond and Isabelle Dohanics suffered a 6-3 setback to Sidnay Huck and Colleen O'Brien. But the Cardinals bounced back as they would soon knot doubles play up with Audrey Berger and Julia Sbircea's 6-3 defeat over Claire Aleck and Megan Miller at the No. 2 slot. The doubles point then came down to the top court where Carmen Blanco alongside partner Peyton Gollhofer captured an exciting 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaking victory versus Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Dee Dee Leenabanchong. This gave Ball State the early 1-0 advantage over the Rockets.
Toledo quickly tied up the match after Huck registered a straight-set win over Gollhofer at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Audrey Berger put the Cardinals back up 2-1 when she defeated Claire Aleck 7-6 (7-5), 6-0. Dohanics then followed suit with another win for Ball State at the No. 5 position before Toledo took a three set thriller from Rebecca Herrington at the No. 4 singles positon. After that, Ormond clinched the match at No. 3 singles for Ball State with her three set take down over Colleen O'Brien. Blanco rounded out the wins for the Cardinals also in three sets to remain unblemished in MAC action.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its two-match MAC road swing when it travels to Miami Friday for a 1 p.m. first serve.
