Sophomore won EKU Colonel Classic, helped BSU to team title
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Coming off her first collegiate victory, Ball State sophomore Sydney Anderson was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
Anderson earned individual medalist honors at the EKU Colonel Classic and led Ball State to a second straight team win. The sophomore finished two shots clear of the 83-player field at the University Club at Arlington, closing with a 54-hole total of 220 (+4).
After finishing each of the first two rounds in second place, she surged to the top early in the final round and controlled the tournament the rest of the way. The Columbus, Indiana, product made 10 birdies for the event, the most of any player.
She helped Ball State to a 13-shot victory over runner-up Ohio. The Bobcats and tournament host Eastern Kentucky were the only teams to finish within 25 shots of the Cardinals.
Anderson helped Ball State to its second victory in five days and became the second Cardinal to claim medalist honors in that stretch. Teammate Allison Lindley won the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
This week's selection marks the second time this year Anderson has won the award. She shared the honor after finishing fourth in the season-opening Redbird Invitational.
