Reardon Marks Career-High Kills in Men’s Volleyball Loss to Lewis

MUNCIE, Ind. – The No. 13 Ball State men's volleyball team took on No. 7 Lewis Thursday night and fell to the Flyers, 3-1.
Freshman Blake Reardon earned a starting spot in tonight's match due to strong performances last weekend and he did not disappoint. When asked how he felt when his name was called in the starting lineup, Reardon said, "At first I just started shaking, but I just couldn't stop smiling." The outside attacker led the team with a career-high 13 kills. He also added nine digs, one service ace and one solo block.
Another freshman that had a huge impact on the match was Matt Szews. The left-handed outside hitter had 12 kills, seven digs, two block assists and one solo block. The other Matt, Matt Walsh, knocked down 10 kills for a .471 hitting percentage.
The opening set went to the Cardinals, 25-23. Szews led the set with five kills while Reardon and Parker Swartz added three. As a team, Ball State had 13 kills for a .333 hitting percentage.
After 12 tied scores and four lead changes, set two went to the Flyers with a final score of 27-25. Reardon knocked down six of the team's 15 kills. Connor Gross led the set with 13 assists and five digs.
After the 10 minute break, Lewis came out to win sets three and four. In the 25-20 Cardinal loss in set three, Szews had four kills. Reardon, Edgardo Cartagena and Nate Wolf each added two kills. Reardon led the third set with four digs. In the fourth set, Ball State fell 25-20 once again. Walsh led the final set in kills with three. Gross, Reardon and Swartz each added two kills while Brendan Surane and Szews both had one.
Ball State (17-9, 8-7 MIVA) will round out regular season play on Saturday, April 8 as they take on the 10th ranked Loyola Ramblers. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Worthen Arena with a senior recognition ceremony prior to the match.
