Johnny Watts shares individual lead at 6 under par
LEADERBOARD
NASHPORT, Ohio -- The Ball State men's golf team posted a 36-hole total of 582 (+6) Friday to position itself in second place at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Cardinals are seven shots behind 12th-ranked Kent State (-1), the defending champion, at the halfway point at The Virtues Golf Club.
Johnny Watts carded a pair of 69's to grab a share of the individual lead. The 2015 MAC champion made only two bogies all day. He birdied his final two holes to match Kent State's Gisli Sveinbergsson at the top of the leaderboard at 6 under par.
But the Cardinals got contributions from the entire lineup. Watts was just one of three Cardinals to end the day in the top 10.
Timothy Wiseman is ninth at 2 over par following rounds of 72 and 74. He ranks third in the field with nine birdies. Michael Makris is one shot behind him in a tie for 10th after a 76 and a 71. His second round featured eagles at both the par-5 seventh and 16th holes.
The Cardinals also counted a 77 from Colin Proctor in the morning round and a 74 from Michael VanDeventer in the afternoon.
The team's second-round score of even-par 288 matched Kent State for the lowest of the afternoon.
Ball State will play Saturday's third round with the Golden Flashes and Toledo, which occupies the third spot at 589 (+13). Proctor will be the first BSU player off the opening tee at 12:10 p.m. The fourth and final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
