Women’s Golf Sixth after MAC Opening Round

Sydney Anderson’s 76 paces Cardinals on day one

SILVER LAKE, Ohio -- Sydney Anderson led the Ball State women's golf team Friday with an opening 76 (+4) as the Cardinals positioned themselves in the middle of the leaderboard at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Ball State posted a first-round score of 313 (+25) at Silver Lake Country Club. The Cardinals are tied for sixth on the leaderboard with Toledo.
Kent State, the No. 15 team in the country, leads the way after a round of 289 (+1). The Golden Flashes also boast the top four players on the individual leaderboard, led by a trio at even-par.
Ohio and Northern Illinois are tied for second place at 304 (+16).
Anderson, who played her second nine Friday in even par, leads Ball State in 12th place. The Cardinals also counted a 78 from Manon Tounalom, a 79 from Morgan Nadaline and an 80 from Allison Lindley in the opening round.
The already challenging course played long Friday thanks to wet conditions that kept the players from getting much roll in the fairways. The average score for the day was nearly 79.
The tournament continues with the second round Saturday. Ball State's starting times begin at 8 a.m. off the first tee.
