Women's Tennis Continues To Dominate MAC Play With 5-2 Win Over Buffalo

For the third-straight conference match the Cardinals took the doubles point from their opponent. Although taking the early 1-0 lead today over Buffalo wasn't easy for Ball State. First off the court was the No. 2 doubles tandem of Peyton Gollhofer and Carmen Blanco. The twosome registered a fairly easy 6-3 win over Martinez Blanco and Anna Savchenko. After that, Buffalo knotted doubles action after Tanja Stojanovska and Margarita Kotok took a 6-2 decision over the Cardinals duo of Rosalinda Calderon and Julia Sbircea on the top court. The doubles point then came down to court three where Audrey Berger and Isabelle Dohanics clinched doubles action with their thrilling 7-6 (10-8) tie breaking win over Laura Holterbosch and M. Losada Rubio.
Ball State had a strong start to singles play after taking first sets from Buffalo on five of the six courts. Last week's MAC Singles Player of the Week, Blanco proved to be just that again this week by earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Bulls Stojanovska. With the win, Blanco remains undefeated in conference action with a 4-0 ledger. Dohanics increased the Cardinals lead to 3-0 after registering a straight set defeat over Rubio, 6-4, 6-1. Berger would be the next match off the court at the No. 5 spot where she clinched the match for the Cardinals after a 6-4, 6-4 take down over Sanjana Sudhir.
The Cardinals continued to dominate as Gollhofer won a 6-2, 6-4 battle over C. Martinez Blanco at the No. 2 singles slot. With the match already won by Ball State, two Cardinals continued their competitions on courts three and six. Toni Ormond put up a good fight at the No. 3 position earning a second set tiebreaker from Emel Abibula 7-6 (11-9) but unfortunately despite her toughness she fell in the third set by a score of 11-9. Calderone also fell in a third set tiebreaker 10-3 on court six which ended the match.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action at home Friday against Eastern Michigan. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
