Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Honors
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team swept this week's Mid-American Conference Weekly honors. Peyton Gollhofer earned singles tennis player of the week and doubles team of the week with teammate Carmen Blanco.
Gollhofer came to the Cardinals rescue in a match against Western Kentucky as the score was tied, 3-3, she clinched the match for Ball State over the Hilltoppers in a three-set thriller. She dropped the first set tie breaker to A. Christopoulou but came back in sets two and three by a score of 7-5, 6-2, for the victory.Â
In doubles play, Gollhofer and Blanco went 2-0 this past weekend. The duo began the weekend with a 6-0 decision over Belmont's Maddie Gilley and Abbie Mather on court three, helping the Cardinals win the doubles point and the match 6-1 Saturday afternoon. The twosome were back at it again Monday after their 6-1 take down over Western Kentucky's Cindy Oest and Natalia De Ugarte at the No. 2 position. The Cardinals went on to win the match 4-3.
With the wins this past weekend, Ball State improves to 10-2 on the season.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action when it plays at Butler Wednesday, March 15 at 4 p.m.
