Field Hockey Squad Honored for Academic Excellence

MUNCIE, Ind. –The National Field Hockey Coaches Association honored teams with academic excellence Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals were one of the squads awarded the 2016 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award.
As a team, the Cardinals tied for fifth in the country for the highest grade-point average, marking a team GPA of 3.56. Ball State is tied with American University and Temple University.
The NFHCA gives the National Academic Team Award to teams that achieved a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Ball State was one of 75 teams in the nation to be honored with this award, along with the other six Mid-American Conference teams.
The 2016 Ball State field hockey team excelled in the classroom and also on the field. The Cardinals finished the season 8-11 and made it to the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2011.
Individual selections to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be announced by the organization next week.
