Women's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight With Win At Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ball State women's tennis team conintued its winning ways when it won its fourth-straight at Belmont Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Sportsplex. The Cardinals took down the Bruins by a score of 6-1. With the win, Ball State improves to 9-2 on the season while Belmont dropped to 2-9.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 early advantage over the Bruins after earning the doubles point. Carmen Blanco alongside teammate Peyton Gollhofer were the first twosome off the court after sweeping Belmont's Maddie Gilley and Abbie Mather 6-0 on court three. Soon to follow was the Cardinals No. 2 doubles tandem Rosalinda Calderone and Rebecca Herrington who clinched the point after defeating the Bruins Laura Kent and Laura Van Eeckhoudt, 7-5.
In singles play, Julia Sbircea put the Cardinals up 2-0 after taking the first set from Suzanna Stapler by a score of 6-1 she then won the match 1-0 in the second, the match went unfinished. Blanco followed suit beating her opponent Kent without giving a game up in either set earning the victory, 6-0, 6-0 on the top court. With the Cardinals ahead 3-0, Rebecca Herrington claimed the victory for Ball State after earning the fourth point. She beat Kendall Waren, 6-3, 6-0 on court four. Herrington has been consistent with clinching the matches for the Cardinals the last few weeks and now has the best record on the team at 9-2. Calderon and Isabelle Dohanics also earned singles victories today.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action on the road when it competes against Western Kentucky Monday for a 1 p.m. first serve in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
