Soccer Shows Positive Signs Despite Loss to Wright State
March 26, 2017 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State soccer coach Craig Roberts was pleased with the progress his team made Sunday despite coming up on the short end against Wright State.
Â
It came down to finishing chances in the offensive third, and the Cardinals weren't able to find the net in a 1-0 loss at the Briner Sports Complex.
Â
Ball State created several 1v1 opportunities and had one shot hit the crossbar and deflect down toward the goal line before winding up back in the field of play.
Â
"The girls played very well the first half, combined very well and were consistent with what they were doing," Roberts said. "The Wright State goalkeeper came up strong with a good performance for them. It just wasn't our day to day in regards to finishing."
Â
The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the spring and are now 2-1. They will continue spring action Saturday, April 1 at the Briner Sports Complex with a game at 1 p.m. against Missouri Baptist, followed by the annual alumni game.
Â
"We came up short today, but we were much improved in many areas we've been working on," Roberts said. "Although the result wasn't positive for us, I definitely felt we created some positive movement forward. I think the building blocks for next season are being laid, and we are right on course for where we need to be."
