Six Home Games Highlight 2017 Ball State Football Schedule
March 01, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2017 Ball State football schedule features two home games each in September, October and November. Family Weekend is slated for Sept. 16 against Tennessee Tech and Homecoming is set for Oct. 21 against Central Michigan.
Ball State kicks off the season at Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 2. This will mark the fourth straight year and eighth time in the last 10 seasons the Cardinals have squared off against a Big Ten opponent.
Conference USA member UAB will make its first-ever appearance at Scheumann Stadium on Sept. 9 for Ball State's home opener. Following another home game on Sept. 16 against Tennessee Tech, the Cardinals wind down their non-conference slate at two-time defending Conference USA champion Western Kentucky on Sept. 23.
The Cardinals begin Mid-American Conference play on Sept. 30 at defending league champion Western Michigan. The Broncos went undefeated during the 2016 regular season, earned a spot in the Cotton Bowl and were ranked No. 15 in the final Associated Press top 25 poll.
Ball State will make the trek to Akron for just the second time since 2009 on Oct. 7.
Ball State's Oct. 21 Homecoming game versus Central Michigan is its final Saturday game of the season. Each of the last three meetings against the Chippewas has been decided by three points or less. The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 24-24-1.
The final five games for Ball State all have the potential to be broadcast on national television, three of which are guaranteed for a national television audience. Toledo visits Scheumann Stadium on Thursday night, Oct. 26. After two road games at Eastern Michigan (Nov. 2) and Northern Illinois (Nov. 9), the Cardinals will conclude the regular season with home games against Buffalo on Thursday, Nov. 16 and Miami on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
The inaugural 'Red Bird Rivalry' trophy will be on the line in the regular season finale versus Miami.
The regular season will conclude with the 21st Marathon MAC Football Championship game at a date to be determined from Ford Field in Detroit. This will mark the 14th Marathon MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
An updated version of the 2017 MAC football schedule will be released in June with kick times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during late October and November. All other game kick times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
Ball State's spring football practice begins on Tuesday, March 14 and culminates with the 2017 Spring Game on Saturday, April 15. The complete spring practice schedule will be posted on BallStateSports.com in the near future.
