Women's Tennis Defeats Wright State Sunday, 5-2

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team closed its two-match weekend with another win when the Cardinals defeated Wright State by a score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals improved their overall record to 5-1.
Ball State trailed Wright State at the start of the match after losing the doubles point to the Raiders. Although the Cardinals typically have a strong showing in doubles action they competed hard but couldn't get the job done today.
Instead the Cardinals decided to comeback in singles action taking five of the six matches from Wright State. Toni Ormond gave Ball State its first point of the day and evened the score 1-1 with her straight set victory over Haily Morgan on court four. Rebecca Herrington followed Ormond with yet another two set defeat over Tori Turner at the No. 6 spot. With the Cardinals up now 2-1, Audrey Berger took down Elaine Cloern by a score of 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 5 position to put Ball State up by three.
After that, Carmen Blanco gave up one game in her first set to Linsey Verstrepen on court two winning 6-1. She then claimed the match and the fourth point in the second stanza by a decision of 6-4. Isabelle Dohanics rounded out the wins for Ball State today after beating Vanessa Madrigal, 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot.
The Cardinals have now won five-straight with their only loss coming against North Carolina at the start of spring play. Ball State women's tennis looks to extend its win streak next Sunday afternoon at Cincinnati. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
