Gymnastics Competes at Eastern Michigan Friday
February 23, 2017 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind.-- The Ball State gymnastics team looks to show improvement this Friday, Feb. 24, against Mid-American Conference opponent Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
"In the gym the team focused on going back to the basics," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "After an upsetting loss at Bowling Green, we needed to re-group and prove to ourselves that we are comfortable and confident with our gymnastics. The team shows eagerness to step onto the floor at Eastern and gain those tenths back that we lost during our routines at Bowling Green."Â
Last weekend the Cardinals were at Bowling Green where they managed at 47.800 on bars, 48.900 on vault, 48.700 on floor and a score of 48.225 on beam.
The team started on bars. Kayla Beckler and Jordyn Penny both stood in second place with scores of 9.800.
On vault, freshman Maddie MacDonald and senior Sarah Ebeyer tied for third place with scores of 9.800. For MacDonald this marks a career high.
Moving into the third event the Cardinals trailed the Falcons 97.175 - 96.700. Kayla Beckler led the Cardinals on floor with a 9.825 placing first.
The Cardinals concluded the meet on beam where Bri Slonim scored a 9.800 placing second.Â
Kaitlyn Menzione scored a 37.650 in the all-around competition taking first place overall.
"We get distracted sometimes and especially mid-season it's easy to lose focus," Saleem stated. "The team has worked hard by revisiting the goals set for the season and in turn has boosted our morale. I think if we keep this confident mindset going into this Friday then we are going to have a pretty competitive meet."
The Cardinals continue MAC play when they return home to Worthen Arena to face Western Michigan for the first time this season on Mar. 5 at 1p.m. EST.Â
