Ball State Shows Improvement in Loss at Eastern Michigan
February 24, 2017 | Gymnastics
YPSILANTI, Mich.-- The Ball State Cardinals show improvement but fall short with a 195.950-194.225 loss against Eastern Michigan Friday, Feb. 24 in the Convocation Center.
"Although we didn't accomplish hitting 24/24 routines, we had some major improvements," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Bri Slonim stuck her vault and Madison Howell had one of the top scores in an exhibition spot on bars. Kaitlyn Menzione hit all four events and Jordyn Penny had solid performances on her events respectively. "
The Cardinals managed a 48.325 on bars, 48.950 on vault, 48.925 on floor and a score of 48.025 on beam.
Jordyn Penny placed third place on bars with a score of 9.850.Â
On vault, Freshmen Maddie MacDonald and Bri Slonim tied for the top spot with scores of 9.825. For MacDonald this marks a career high.
Moving into the third event, Kaitlyn Menzione and Kayla Beckler held the first two positions on floor with scores of 9.875 and 9.850.Â
The Cardinals concluded the meet on beam where Jordyn Penny claimed fourth with a 9.800.
Kaitlyn Menzione scored a 38.950 in the all-around competition taking second place overall.
"We still have some room for improvement," Saleem stated. "As a team we did a better job at maintaining our focus on our gymnastics. I think tonight sparked a fire and will lead to solid performances as we return to Worthen Arena next Sunday."
The Cardinals return home to Worthen Arena for Senior Night to face Western Michigan for the first time this season on Mar. 5 at 1 p.m. EST.
