Cardinals Drop Road Dual at Bowling Green
February 18, 2017 | Gymnastics
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-- The Ball State gymnastics team dropped a difficult road meet to Bowling Green today, Feb. 18. The Cardinals finished with a 193.625, while the Falcons notched a 194.950. The team stands 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
"Although we didn't perform how we had hoped, we did have some positive performances tonight," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Kayla Beckler won floor with a great routine and Maddie MacDonald earned a career high on vault. Bri Slonim also had a terrific showing on beam. The freshman have really gained confidence in their spots in the lineups."
The Cardinals managed at 47.800 on bars, 48.900 on vault, 48.700 on floor and a score of 48.225 on beam.
The team started on bars. Kayla Beckler and Jordyn Penny both stood in second place with scores of 9.800.
On vault, freshman Maddie MacDonald and senior Sarah Ebeyer tied for third place with scores of 9.800. For MacDonald this marks a career high.
Moving into the third event the Cardinals trailed the Falcons 97.175 - 96.700. Kayla Beckler led the Cardinals on floor with a 9.825 placing first.
The Cardinals concluded the meet on beam where Bri Slonim scored a 9.800 placing second.Â
Kaitlyn Menzione scored a 37.650 in the all-around competition taking first place overall.
"I'm proud that we stayed together as a team throughout the entire night," Saleem stated. "It's difficult to come back after such a rough start on the first two events, but the beam group did a nice job holding together and scoring above a 48. We have to remember to focus on our performances instead of the scores moving forward. We definitely have a lot to take away from this meet, and I'm excited to face another MAC school with the hopes of improving."
The Cardinals continue MAC play on the road at Eastern Michigan Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. EST in the Convocation Center.Â
