Cardinals Flock to Bowling Green for Saturday Competition
February 15, 2017 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State gymnastics team picked up its second Mid-American Conference 195.425-194.000 win over Central Michigan last Sunday in Worthen Arena. The team remains 2-0 in the MAC and looks ahead in hopes of a road victory against MAC rival Bowling Green, Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. EST in the Anderson Arena.Â
"I feel confident about this match-up with Bowling Green Saturday," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "If our team stays internally focused on our gymnastics during the competition and executes what they do everyday in practice then I believe we will come out on top this weekend."
Last weekend the Cardinals exhibited nothing but success over the Chippewa's. The team scored event high scores on 2 out of the 4 events.
On vault, Jordyn Penny and senior Shelby Arms both claimed career highs. Penny claimed second with a score of 9.850 and Arms stood third with a score of 9.825.
Penny swung into first place on bars with another impressive showing of 9.800. Miranda Kuehl and Kayla Beckler both stood third with scores of 9.775. For Kuehl this marks a personal best score.Â
Baylee Bell continued her reign on beam with a 9.850. Jackie Duffy and Bri Slonim stood third and fourth with scores of 9.800 and 9.775.Â
The Cardinals concluded the meet on floor where three Ball State athletes finished in the top three. Kaitlyn Menzione led the Cardinals with a first place finish of 9.850. Sarah Ebeyer and Kayla Beckler both stood third with scores of 9.825.
Menzione earned second place all-around with a personal total of 38.200.
"Although we have back-to-back road competitions ahead of us, I'm excited that Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan are in close proximity to Ball State,"Â Saleem stated. "A lot of the time traveling plays into performance and now that we are done with our big travel meets, the team can continue to focus on taking care of themselves so they are ready to take on the competitive teams in the MAC for the remainder of the season."
The Cardinals continue MAC play on the road at Eastern Michigan Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. EST in the Convocation Center.Â
