February 12, 2017 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind.-- The Ball State gymnastics team picked up its second Mid-American Conference win over Central Michigan, Sunday, Feb. 12, in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals stood victorious with a 195.425-194.000 win. The team is now 2-0 in the MAC.Â
"I'm excited that we get to celebrate another MAC win," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "The most important thing is that our team went out there and had a successful competition. By no means was this a perfect meet for us, but the team was able to stay focused and stay together until the very last routine."
The team scored season high event scores on vault (49.025) and beam (48.800). On bars the team posted an event score of 48.575 and finishing on floor a 49.025.
Two Cardinals stood second and third on vault. Junior Jordyn Penny and senior Shelby Arms both claimed career highs. Penny claimed second with a score of 9.850 and Arms stood third with a score of 9.825.
On bars Jordyn Penny swung into first place with another impressive showing of 9.800. Miranda Kuehl and Kayla Beckler both stood third with scores of 9.775. For Kuehl this marks a personal best score.
For the second meet in a row Baylee Bell claimed first place with a 9.850. Jackie Duffy and Bri Slonim stood third and fourth with scores of 9.800 and 9.775. For Duffy this showing is a career high thus far.
The Cardinals concluded the meet on floor where three Ball State athletes finished in the top three. Kaitlyn Menzione led the Cardinals with a first place finish of 9.850. Sarah Ebeyer and Kayla Beckler both stood third with scores of 9.825.
Menzione stood second with an all-around total of 38.200.
"I think if the team focuses on our season goals we can continue to have success in the MAC," Saleem stated. "As long as we keep working towards bettering our gymnastics I believe we will be able to continue our success for the remainder of the season."
The Cardinals travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete another MAC opponent on Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. E.S.T.Â
