Tounalom Leads Women's Golf to Fifth at Sunshine Invite

Freshman from France posts best collegiate finish with tie for fifth

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Freshman Manon Tounalom recorded the first top-5 finish of her collegiate career to lead the Cardinals women's golf team at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational.
Ball State finished the 54-hole event Saturday in fifth place out of 12 teams at St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. The Cardinals closed with a round of 319 to post a three-round total of 977.
Toledo held onto its overnight lead to finish as the team champion with a score of 938. Southern Illinois (950), Lamar (953) and Eastern Kentucky (963) rounded out the top four.
Tounalom posted the third-best final round of any player in the field with a 75 to move up six spots into a tie for fifth on the final leaderboard. She carded a 54-hole total of 235 (+19).
The Cardinals also counted a pair of 79s from Kelsey Sear and Allison Lindley along with an 86 from Sydney Anderson in the final round.
Sear and Lindley were the next Ball State players on the leaderboard in a tie for 23rd with a total of 245.
Lamar's Elodie Chaplet and Toledo's Thunpijja Sukkasem shared individual medalist honors at 231 (+15), one shot clear of Kristie Yang of Southern Illinois.
St. Lucie Trail Golf Club proved to be a challenging track with the course playing to a scoring average of higher than 83 for the tournament.
The inaugural Sunshine Invitational was the first of six events on Ball State's spring schedule leading up to the MAC Championships in April. The Cardinals will return to action Feb. 24-26 with the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona.
