Men’s Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Day One of EMU Invite

YPSILANTI, Mich.– The Ball State men's swimming and diving team finished up day one of the Eastern Michigan Invitational with a total of 267 points.
Isaac Walling started off the day with a fifth place finish in the 1650 freestyle (16:32.00) to earn 14 points. Davis Meyn and Jack Luddy also earned points for the Cardinals in that event. Meyn earned the sixth place spot with a time of 16:33.82, over a whole minute faster than his seeded time. Luddy earned nine points for Ball State in that event with his ninth place finish (17:04.29).
In the 200 backstroke, Logan Ackley, Spencer Ball, Chase Jackson and Luddy all earned points. Ackley placed fourth with a time of 1:51.35. Ball was in eighth place with a time of 1:54.20 while Jackson earned 10th place at 2:00.43. Luddy rounded out the event for Ball State with a 12th place finish, earning five points.
Ben Andrew, Banistre Lienhart, Drew Weeks and Zach Reichle all had powerful performances in the 100 freestyle. Andrew posted a time of 46.78 to place fifth. Lienhart was eighth in the event with a final time of 47.31. Weeks marked a time of 47.88 to earn 10th place and seven points. In the 11th place spot was Reichle after posting a time of 47.90.
Cullen Tyler was the lone Cardinal to earn a first place finish. Tyler earned 20 points for the squad with his time of 2:03.84 in the 200 breaststroke. Zach Toman, Meyn and Ryan Jackowiak also competed in the 200 breaststroke. The three placed eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.
Other top ten individual finishes includes Adam Pongracz in the 200 butterfly (1:54.83) and Arnas Maciunas in the 200 butterfly (1:57.49).
In the 400 freestyle relay, Ball State earned the fourth and fifth place finishes. Weeks, Lienhart, Reichle and Andrew came together and posted a time of 3:08.06. Right behind them was Meyn, Pongracz, Tyler and Ball with a time of 3:10.59.
The Ball State women's diving team is also competing at the EMU Invite and earned third, eighth and tenth on the 3 meter board. Rachel Bertram posted a score of 255.10 to earn 16 points. Caitlin Locante earned 12 points with a score of 220.65. Rachel Smallwood marked a score of 206.45 to earn that 10th place spot.
The Cardinals will continue action at the EMU Invite all day tomorrow.
